The ability to function and performing your day to day chores comfortably and effectively throughout the workday as well as handling extra emergencies as well as stress exercises without breaking a sweat is known as Physical fitness. It is an index to measure the fitness and health of the body as a whole. The definition may wary from person to person, but the basic concept is the same. There are 5 major components to physical fitness of a person

  1. Cardio Respiratory endurance (CR) - The cardio vascular system consists of the heart as well as the blood vessels. This system supplies blood throughout the body and hence is the primary source of oxygen for all the body parts.  The efficiency with which the body supplies blood and oxygen to the muscles during extended exercise is known as CR.
  2. Muscular Strength - the amount of force a group of muscles or a muscle may exert against heavy resistance in a single effort is known as muscular strength.
  3. Muscular endurance - It is the ability of the muscle group to hold a particular position or to repeat a single or multiple movements in succession for an extended period of time at a sub maximal force is known as muscular endurance.
  4. Flexibility - the degree to which a muscle or a group of muscles will lengthen is known as flexibility.
  5. Body Composition - the amount of fat on a person as compared to the net body mass is known as the body composition. There are several ways to map the body mass on a person and BMI is one significant index for this.
Aerobic exercises increase CR while the anaerobic exercises increase the muscular strength. Combination of aerobic and anaerobic exercises improves muscular endurance while stretching is a key component of improving flexibility. If you work out regularly you will be able to increase CR as well as have apt Body mass as compared to your overall body.
